Frequently Asked Questions
You Asked, We Answered
How do you measure board feet?
Board feet (not to be confused with square feet) is a way of measuring the volume of wood. It is calculated by multiplying the length, width, and height (all in inches) of a board and dividing the total by 144. For multiple boards, multiply the previous total by the number of boards of that size that you want.
What is planing?
Planing is the process of turning a rough plank into a smooth one by sanding down the faces of the wood. Because it takes extra time and labor, planed boards cost a little more than rough ones.
What is straight-lining?
Straight-lining is when the edges of a board are sawn so that they are straight. This is good for when you are building structures and need the boards to line up close together. Like with planed boards, pieces of wood that have been straight-lined cost more than those that haven't.
Do you accept returns?
Unfortunately, we cannot accept returned products due to the nature of our sales. Please ensure that you have the full, correct order placed before you receive your order.
What does "starting at" mean?
Ideally, we could keep a set price for bdf. However, some cuts of wood take more time or require large trees- which are harder to come by- to complete an order.  In these cases, we have to raise the price of a plank in order to keep making a profit.
